The use of wristbands in tennis

Have you ever noticed tennis players putting on wristbands on their wrists? In fact is it really necessary to do so? Tennis shoes definitely are an essential as it will help not only improve your performance in certain sense. Are wristbands an essential too?

But by putting a band on your wrist is something that could be consider if you feel you do not want your trickle of perspiration to affect your grip. Mainly tennis stars who put them on usually is to absorb the perspiration so not to slip to their hand or grip. Some perhaps would also use it to wipe their perspiration of their head or face. These days, such an item could also be deemed as a sports fashion accessory for athletes.

But one should note that wristband if put on should be done so appropriately so as not to affect the maneuver of the tennis racquets techniques in the games.

Maria sharapova's toss release technique

Maria Sharapova is a great player and many of us would know that but among the many reasons she is great one of them certainly is the excellent technique she has displayed when she plays tennis. It is through great training and perfection of techniques that is good for her to perform that one move. Of course this great player has more than just one move. But each move is something and the combination of all these made her great on the courts. One of these moves is the way how she tosses the ball. This may seems simple or even something really basic, but this move will give you a great advantage in the game when you start it well.

Looking at how Maria Sharapova did her toss, you will noticed that all her tossing moves were consistent and so graceful with such clean feel. She has her left arm extended, reaching after the ball, and the fingers of her left hand opened up so that none of them pushed the ball off course at the moment of release.

When the ball reaches to the right position, that is where she hits the ball and that is the power serve.

The importance of tennis shoes in tennis

As we move on to talk about the glamours and cool stuff about our favourite tennis players on the court sometimes besides the great skills the players have the attire such as the shoes also seems to be an important factor to perhaps a better tournament player too. If someone said it does not matter what shoes if you have the skills well it could be true to a certain extent but with a good pair of shoes that is customised for the game perhaps you can even play better.

There is a difference when you wear tennis shoes. If you notice tennis requires lots of lateral movements such as actions of sideways starts and stops. Sometimes tennis players could drag the toes and heel across the court where the areas of the toes and heels will need a better padding.

Due to more lateral movements needed in the match, the tennis shoes are usually flatter and wider with a lower heal so that the players would not have their ankle roll over easily then.

Australia Open commercial for 2012

While awaiting for the open ceremony of the Australia Open, one can check out their commercial which in comparison to the previous year this was so much better in engaging the audience. This is a grand event and it is also a sport that is filled with passion thus it should show both of these elements. In this commercial, it aims to engage the audience to feel with the players, the game and the place. More importantly it makes the audience want to watch on and also feel that the open is going to be really nice. Few more days for this exciting open to come.

Strengthening exercise for best tennis performance

There are certain important things that was noted and one of them is actually a simple set of exercise that would help not only in performing the techniques but also to sustain from injuries. In short it will enhance the tennis performance for a longer run.

This exercise I realised which is important is for the shoulders or upper arm. Besides the shoulder rotation and arm stretching, it is good to begin some strengthening exercises with some weights. One simple exercise that could be effective is to place the weight at your shoulder level then next raise it above the head level. Complete this in sets of 10.

Note also that you may want to exercise your right arm and left arm with the same sets. After completing the sets of 10 rest for a while and continue another few more sets.

The effect of wrist band in tennis

I have recently seen some people asking about whether there is a need to wear wrist band when playing tennis. The reason of why some wear them including professionals is because of the grip they want to maintain. When there is a wrist band the perspiration from the player will be absorbed in the wrist band.

Some will also use the wrist band to wipe their perspiration near their eyes. This is the same reason why some put on a head band like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Of course, there could also be a reason of serving it as a fashion accessory in tennis if they think it looks cooler.

Some top players like Maria Sharapova do not wear wrist band and she can certainly serve a power shot still. Thus in conclusion, it is a matter of preference at the end of the day whether you would really to wear a wrist band in tennis in a way. Some feel that it is an obstacle to have something on the wrist others perhaps felt it will be stronger as a grip. It works whichever it may serve you better of course in the right manner and approach.

ATP Masters 1000

Sometimes there are so many tennis tournaments, we might not know which is which and why some seems to be more important or glamorous than the rest. The ATP Masters 1000 is a series of tennis tournanents which often big names are involved. The ATP Masters 1000 is also formerly known as other names such as Mercedes-Benz Super 9, Tennis Master Series and ATP Master Series.

This series of tennis tournaments is mainly for the professional male tennis players and the points scored in tournaments are more than the regular ones for World ranking. Again, it is not as much as the Grand Slam or ATP World Tours (another tennis tournament).

Any guess why is it called 1000? Hint: The tournament points.

Are you enjoying the game still?

Recently there have been some talking about how they have managed to hit the balls on targets, return serves and etc during practice. But, when they reached at the courts playing with someone at a tournament, things changed. They seem to lose their accuracy.

At any sports, I think before playing at tournaments, we need to get prepare, train and get the right level of of skills. At the match however sometimes it seems like a different story, you will get nervous, feel the intensity and perhaps this is where you should begin to think back why and how you want to play tennis. The question is are you still enjoying the game?

Keep it relax. But not too relax totally, by means relax is to be yourself when you are training hitting the balls with accuracy and the right amount of strength. Enjoy every moment at the court. That's why we want to play the sports in the first place isn't it?

Why spin?

Adding spin will actually gives you control over the shots and spin produces different effects. Isn't this considered good as you can feint the movements of the balls and caught your opponent in surprise? There are basically three kinds of spins.

Topspin allows one to hit the ball higher over the net. It actually pulls the ball down into the court, so you can hit harder and keep the ball in play. Backspin makes the ball stay longer in the air, it makes the ball float ha. This helps in giving more time to get back in position. Sidespin which is something I like it causes the ball to curve in the opposite direction of the racquet path. A ball that curves directly into the body is difficult to return. Can you guess what spin Maria Kirilenko is going to do? It is most probably the top spin.

Tennis stances

As mentioned before there are basically four kinds of stances. In an open stance, the back leg is out to the side at the top of the backswing. It is mainly used for shots out wide on the forehand side.

Tactical stance
one can use an open stance on either the forehand or the backhand side to make the best returns against a strong server.

Sideways stance
One can reach the balls that are played either short or deep when the legs are positioned in line towards the net.

A closed stance
This is when the front leg is across the back leg. It is opposite to an open stance and is mostly used on the backhand side.
