One-handed slice tennis backhand technique

Those who read my blog usually knows I will write a brief up of a technique and then share how the technique can be done like now. So for one-handed slice tennis backhand technique , there are about 5 steps:

Step 1.
Get ready with the racket in front with non-dominating hand supporting the racket. As usual, bend knees slightly for faster movement.

Step 2.
Track the ball with the racket butt and lean into the outside food as you are going to play the ball.

Step 3.
As the bounces, perform a backswing by fully rotate the upper body and ensure that shoulders are aligned.

Step 4.
Count one on the bounce hit down and across the underside of the ball when you reach five. However the speed of counting depends on the speed of the ball.

Step 5.
As you finish the shot, your shoulders blades should be completely squeezed together with the racket arm pulled across the ball.

One-handed slice tennis backhand technique Introduction

One-handed slice backhand is a single-handed shot when playing a groundstroke on your non-dominant side. The advantage of using this technique is that you can actually significantly increases your reach capacity. Slice is used primarily as a defensive shot when the player is under pressure, but it can also be used aggressively like a drop shot.

So some may ask what exactly is slice? Slice is when the ball is struck with a combination of side and backspin. Usually, the continental grip is used for this kind of shot. Timing is important for this shot though of course timing is always important for all other sports. For some, they actually said that counting one to five works for this slice backhand.

One of the best tennis backhand techniques

Talking about backhand technique, Roger Federer has one of the best one-handed tennis backhand techniques in world tennis. There are some points to take note in his excellent way of hitting the ball using the technique. As summarized:

1. Steady head

His head is still and over the ball with his eyes clearly focused on the ball. This helps to maintain excellent balance as he plays the shot.

2. Leg position

If anyone noticed, he usually gets down to get the ball (and this movement of course has to be done accurately and with the adequate speed) he is bending his knee at the knees as well as the waist. Notice the definition in the right calf muscle, which is evidence of the great lower body strength he has gained.

3. Front foot

Federer's right foot is planted flat onto the ground as he moves his weight forward and onto it.

4. Weight transfer.
As Federer steps down the court he moves his weight forward.

5. Arm angle

The arm is virtually straight when he is about to hit the ball and his grip is firm.

Tennis Backhand technique

Alright today I want to note down that there are two kind of tennis backhand techniques actually. One is the one-handed backhand. Begin with the ready position and your body should be facing the net with feet at least shoulder width apart and knees slightly bent.

Body weight should be slightly forward and back strong. Both hands should be on the racket and eyes on the ball and opponent. This really helps to make you focus but remember don't stare blankly I do get that sometimes when I lose concentration.

Just as your opponent initiates a forward swing do a split step as can seen from the picture on the left, turn your hip and shoulders to start the back swing at the same time twist your racket to your preferred grip.
