Serena Williams needed to win the second round at the China Open to reclaim her title as World No. 1and she did after she won 6-3, 6-2 victory over Russia's Ekaterina Makarova at the China Open. Serena Williams is still under investigation due to her incident at the US Open where she challenged the judge rudely. Maria Sharapova who won the Pan Pacific Open continue to stay on in the lead.
