Finally! Maria Sharapova has come a long way and has won her first title since her shoulder injury. Her final opponent was also another former world no. 1, Jelena Jankovic. Both players have played really well from the beginning of the tournament and at the final, unseeded Russian Sharapova was leading 5-2 when Jankovic pulled out with a right wrist injury. Serbian Jankovic claimed the opening two games, but Sharapova stormed back to claim the next five before the seventh seed signaled she could not continue.

Although Maria Sharapova would seems to want to play on, she was also definitely happy that she had landed herself with the title after all. The fans should all be really happy for her and Maria Sharapova definitely have shown that she has the skills to win the tournament. Would this most glamorous tennis player, once former world no. 1, tennis great be able to bounce back again to her title as world no. 1 again?

Many will be waiting to see that and continue to see her climb in rankings. At the moment now both Maria Sharapova and Javanovic can have a good rest first. For Maria Sharapova, she can smile and rest with her new trophy after so many months of not winning anything.
