Why spin?

Adding spin will actually gives you control over the shots and spin produces different effects. Isn't this considered good as you can feint the movements of the balls and caught your opponent in surprise? There are basically three kinds of spins.

Topspin allows one to hit the ball higher over the net. It actually pulls the ball down into the court, so you can hit harder and keep the ball in play. Backspin makes the ball stay longer in the air, it makes the ball float ha. This helps in giving more time to get back in position. Sidespin which is something I like it causes the ball to curve in the opposite direction of the racquet path. A ball that curves directly into the body is difficult to return. Can you guess what spin Maria Kirilenko is going to do? It is most probably the top spin.
