Maria Sharapova has finally secured the berth at the Australia Open final. She will be facing Victoria Azarenka who won defending champion Kim Clijsters at the semi finals. Maria Sharapova has climbed up in ranks now at fourth ranking and Victoria Azarenka at third ranking will be competing not only for the championship title but also for the World Number One place this time. Whoever has won will replace Caroline Wozniacki the current World Number One. In the Men's game Rafael Nadal has once again won Roger Federer and it has been some time since Roger Federer has not won Rafael Nadal at the grand slam Both always show top skills when playing and the more flamboyant player won again. Rafael Nadal will now play at the final.

Moving on in the Australia Open 2012, Maria Sharapova continues to advance and now competing the berth for semi-finals. She won Sabine Lisicki in her fourth round and will be facing fellow Russian Ekaterina Makarov. Ana Ivanovic was cruising too until she met Petra Kvitova. World Number One Caroline Wozniacki was on her target for her first grand slam winning former world number one Jelena Jankovic 6-0. 7-5. But facing Kim Clijster another former world number one she could not stand against the experience and precision of this veteran player on the court and she lost 6-3, 7-6 at the quarter finals.

Both Ana and Caroline red and orange dress were actually one of the nicest looking attire in this game with Maria Sharapova's fresh green. Caronline's orange gave the brightness on court that could really entice one. Of course the fresh green of Maria Sharapova is still the best among all.

In the Men's singles side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal continues to advance too. Roger is still leading with a 6-4, 2-1 against Juan Martin del Potro.

It was another interesting season at the Australia Open. Top players continue top players dropped new players rising and all these can be seen at the Australia Open 2012. Maria Sharapova the ever charming player continues to move on to the third round performing well winning in two rounds against Gisela Dulko and Jamie Hampton. Her fashion style is as usual another attractive thing about her and this time this tennis attire she is wearing really makes a difference. It really appeals to the eyes and make her feel so much fresher and energetic.

Her rankings fell when she injured her arm but with her power shots she managed to climb up in ranks again. Strengthening exercise for best tennis performance

There are certain important things that was noted and one of them is actually a simple set of exercise that would help not only in performing the techniques but also to sustain from injuries. In short it will enhance the tennis performance for a longer run.

This exercise I realised which is important is for the shoulders or upper arm. Besides the shoulder rotation and arm stretching, it is good to begin some strengthening exercises with some weights. One simple exercise that could be effective is to place the weight at your shoulder level then next raise it above the head level. Complete this in sets of 10.

Note also that you may want to exercise your right arm and left arm with the same sets. After completing the sets of 10 rest for a while and continue another few more sets.

Found this interesting animation that can illustrate how a drop shot can be done. These days the drop shot can be a very effective move to counter powerful shots. But the move can only be effective when it is applied carefully and with great surprise.

It may be easy to perform the technique but to use it and score a point is something that needs more skill. Usually it can be done with luring the opponents with series of deep and powerful shots then later on surprised them with a drop shot when they are behind their baseline.

Another note again which is that the drop shot should not be used that often so to serve as a surprise counter technique.

This upcoming new show Untitled Jersey City Project which they tried to promote in a different approach seems to entail those factors mentioned as part of making this drama. Usually one of the most important factors of a good show is definitely the cast and right now they seems fine to watch but not exactly with totally enticing acting skills for me to watch on. Probably Larry (watch the video and you will know who) who looks like a veteran actor seems to know what he is doing and that is why he can perform his role better too.

As someone who always encourages new ways in marketing something in an effective and appropriate way to engage the audience with style. This work-in-progress drama has certainly try to market themselves in an unique way and at the same time in a smart way to gather responses before making more concrete plans in how the drama should be implemented to improve the show. The semi-final of World Number 1 Caroline Wozniacki and former US Open Champion Svetlana Kuznetsova was one thrilling match that had both sides in a very suspense mode. Caroline had not been performing in the previous matches though she has the most points accumulated from the tournaments that made her World Number 1 so far but she had not win any major tournaments title.

Moreover, she has sometimes been out at the initial rounds of the games. But today at the US Open 2011, she had showed that she is a Champion. When playing against Svetlana Kuznetsova, she was a set and 4-1 down but later on, she just fought back and won. When being interviewed she said that her strength is that she never gives up.

She was a set and a break down later on she went on in the next two hours which usually what was called a marathon to win 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-3. With the Rome and Cincinnati titles she should be more confident and those should serve as the boost for her to maintain and even soar in her performance. I have recently seen some people asking about whether there is a need to wear wrist band when playing tennis. The reason of why some wear them including professionals is because of the grip they want to maintain. When there is a wrist band the perspiration from the player will be absorbed in the wrist band.

Some will also use the wrist band to wipe their perspiration near their eyes. This is the same reason why some put on a head band like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Of course, there could also be a reason of serving it as a fashion accessory in tennis if they think it looks cooler.

Some top players like Maria Sharapova do not wear wrist band and she can certainly serve a power shot still. Thus in conclusion, it is a matter of preference at the end of the day whether you would really to wear a wrist band in tennis in a way. Some feel that it is an obstacle to have something on the wrist others perhaps felt it will be stronger as a grip. Tennis Footwork and Forehand technique

Sometimes as a tennis player, we may be very focus on the grips, the swings and whether is our power of our forehand strong enough and etc. One important aspect of the game is actually our footwork. Before we go into footwork there are two points which we need to remember when hitting with our forehand technique:

1. We need to know that the ideal zone for most players when hitting the ball will be between 2-3 feet to the side of your body and the point of contact of the ball.

2. It is also essential that you make contact with the ball when it is in front of you, for the obvious reason because you will be able to swing enough to generate the speed and power.

To perform the above two points, we need to achieve good footwork. The footwork will gives us the placing where we can comfortably hit the ball with the swing we want. The word is comfortably and with nimble movements on the court this gives us the confidence to hit the ball to where we want to. To train footwork, it requires the timing and the speed to see where the ball is coming from. This will be discussed again in the next post.

When Maria Sharapova started not as expected at the match with Sabine Lisicki and later bucked up to win the semi-finals, it was a great moment for her as she fired up and showed that she is eager to win the grand slam title one more time. When she reached at the final of the Wimbledon 2011 against Petra Kvitova, she was not able to show the style of her performance. Maybe she was tired and she seems to lack the real drive to go for the title. Petra Kvitova on the other hand took every moment to score and aim to end the game as fast as she could. Petra won and she became the new grand slam champion. This is her moment as she now won the prestigious tennis title to her collections of trophy. But Maria Sharapova still won the trophy for her great performance at the Grand slam. She also managed to rise in rank to reach another spot in the World rankings. She is now top 5 and still the glamorous tennis player both on and off the court.

Maria Sharapova being the most veteran and considerably the most successful player compared to the rest continues to perform and she made it to the semi-finals with great skills and confidence. At this juncture, we must be thinking whether is this the time for Maria Sharapova to shine again? I mean of course she has been shining but shining as a World No. 1 player she used to be at the courts. She is always known to have really strong shots but recently she did not seems to be winning any more grand slam titles or even major tournament titles.

She did however managed to reach to the final of some of these tournaments. In this year's Wimbledon, one of the most highly regarded grand slam, she has managed to reach to the semi-finals and she will be meeting Germany's Sabine Lisicki, a player that seems to be rising up in ranks. Can Maria Sharapova be her in true form again? The champion that we all remembered her before?

In today's match we will know the answer. Victoria Azarenka is also another player who has been reaching to finals of tournaments and she will be in the semi-finals to pit for a place in the final.

She later won the match as Ana did not managed to keep up with the intensity. She will be meeting Lisicki from Germany for the title.

It was indeed a spectacular French Open 2011. Maria Sharapova made it to the semi-finals but lost to Li Na. The defending champion Schiavone went on to the final and will meet Li Na. Li Na made history she became the finalist at the Australia Open. Now she has made a new history when she won the French Open. She is not only the First Chinese to ever won a grand slam but a first Asian to do so.

She also has a sense of humor when there were remarks that she was old to clinch a title. In fact, it was deemed as a classic final. But she commented that to achieve a dream at an old age, not easy. Though of course she never thought she was too old for this. Li Na won Schiavone 6-4, 7-6. She has also become the first ever Asian to rise in World ranking to fourth.

A remarkable journey for her. A spectacular game indeed for many.

Maria Sharapova continue to advance to win a shot for the grand slam title after winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 against 17 year old Garcia. Samantha Stosur continues to be the cool athlete with her steady yet effective serve, returns and accuracy. World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki continues to advance too but received a jeer from the crowd after she requested for a call to trace back a fault committed by the opponent. Later on, she perked up and won the round. Kim Clijsters the former World No. 1 surprised most people by exiting at the second round. This was her earliest exit after more than 10 years in her tennis career. For Caroline, this means she will retain her No. 1 spot even if she did not perform at the French Open.

When it comes to smashing, there are three main things that we always have to take note. The preparation, forward swing and contact and follow through.

1. Preparation

Turn sideways and then get into a position where the ball is above and slightly to the right or left depending which hand you are using. Move backwards and get ready for the shot. Use the free hand to point at the ball for balance and coordination.

2. Forward swing and contact

Throw the racket head up to meet the ball at maximum height and ensure the contact point is in front of your head with your arm fully extended upward. Eyes on the ball and strike it.

3. Follow through

Make your racket follow through slightly across the body to help you recover the next shot and ensure your upper body follows the trajectory of the ball and bends forward.

The Madrid Open this year has began and it is time for all the top players to gather again. At the first rounds for the many tennis players who want to be at the top at this open. The previous champion Aravane Rezai who stunned Venus Williams was surprisingly out at the first round by the Swede Sofia Arvidsson.

The current World Number One did well at the first round showing the standards of a true champion and went on to the next. Maria Sharapova currently ranked World Number 9 though struggled a little, went on to win the game. Close shave for her but she did it and the spectators are happy as they will be seeing her more at the courts.

The ATP Masters 1000 is a series of tennis tournanents which often big names are involved. The ATP Masters 1000 is also formerly known as other names such as Mercedes-Benz Super 9, Tennis Master Series and ATP Master Series.

This series of tennis tournaments is mainly for the professional male tennis players and the points scored in tournaments are more than the regular ones for World ranking. Again, it is not as much as the Grand Slam or ATP World Tours (another tennis tournament).

The backhand smash

The smash is one technique that can help many players to score an point outright and it is almost similar like the serve in the sense that it is a throwing action. However different is that you will have the placement control in the serve and in the smash the ball's direction is determined by your opponent. Having said that means you have to move to get the positioning you need. The shot is generally played in the air but there are times you can see when some professionals play they let the ball bounce first and then smash it. The reason can be of several factors such as the sun is too bright for your eyes or the lob is very high or the opponent has retreated to the baseline and the bounce of the ball is high. Knowing how to smash is the answer to the lob shot which was mentioned in the much earlier post and the key to a good smash is having quick footwork so that you can get back and underneath the ball in time.

The jump smash is one technique used by many tennis greats such as Roger Federer who has used it again at the recent sensational French Open. It can be used when you are faced with a very deep lob. The only main thing to consider is that this technique requires lots of coordination in the sense that you may need to move the ball quickly by running in. There are also several things to consider when applying this technique properly:

1. Get ready to take off from the ground with legs balanced so that you can accurately hit the target.

2. Contact the ball in the air and land on the rear foot with the front pointing forward.

3. Recover fast to prepare for the next shot.

It was a great showdown for the two players. Maria Sharapova former No. 1 has much to prove as a great player before. Is she still as good as before? Victoria Azarenka has much intention to keep her title as champion for the Sony Ericsson Open.

There were too many mistakes made by Maria Sharpaova and Victoria Azarenka took them well and walk away with a 6-1, 6-4 victory and the $700,000 cash prize. Maria's strokes are powerful but not accurate enough to make the cut this time.

It was a great Open for Maria though as she is now ranked World no. 9. She is back in top 10 rankings! Victoria Azarenka needless to say is a jumpy and joyful experience for her.

When Andrea Petkovic won the first set, some may be thinking that it is again another match where Maria Sharapova might after not able to be in the final and not getting back to her shape where she used to be the World No. 1. It was a matter of who can keep the mind strong at the game after so many hours and Maria Sharapova showed that she could. It was an act of a champion.

The other semi-finalist Victoria Azarenka won Kim Clijsters, another former World No.1, a comeback champion who has recently won major tournaments open and rise to World No. 1 for a while and back to World No. 2. Victoria Azarenka herself is a champion before especially for Sony Ericsson Open where she won at 2009.

As the game becomes even more intense, all players are geared up to play to their best. Especially for Maria Sharapova, it is a good shot for her to come back to the top spot again.

Every time when I post about Maria Sharapova, it always had to be her glamour on the tennis arena and this time she had wore a very light but subtly attractive greenish blue attire. This probably gives the leisure and relax feel. But the match between the former No. 1 and current No. 4 Samantha Stosur is not at all that relax.

It has been a long time since Maria Sharapova had win a top 5 player. Having missed out the past years at this event even though she was the advertiser's choice for modeling their products, she finally pull of a great game. She won 6-4, 6-1 against Samantha Stosur.

1. Ready position

You can start with the grip you preferred but be prepare for changes when deciding what shot to play later.

2. Preparation

Get active and ready for the return when the opponent tosses the ball to serve. When your opponent is about to strike the ball, perform a split step so that you can move in the direction the ball is coming.

3. Contact

When hitting a defensive return, the forward swing will be similar to that of a volley. Make the point of contact slightly further in front of your body. Keep the swing impact and the grip firm. When hitting an offensive return, try and have a forward swing similar to your topspin forehand.

4. Follow through

This step depends on the pace of the server, the follow through with the defensive return is likely to similar to that for a blocked volley that is short and compact.

Caroline Wozniacki who had the game controlled at the first set started to be calm keeping her composure and at the same time as usual with her fight back spirit return every shot as fast and strong as she could. She prevailed and won the game. Once again with her determination.

Caroline Wozniacki probably does not have any special moves in terms of her techniques not even when Marion Bartoli seems to have some special serves. But her mindset has made her won the title. She never gets too tired to win back.

Recently there have been some talking about how they have managed to hit the balls on targets, return serves and etc during practice. But, when they reached at the courts playing with someone at a tournament, things changed. They seem to lose their accuracy.

At any sports, I think before playing at tournaments, we need to get prepare, train and get the right level of of skills. At the match however sometimes it seems like a different story, you will get nervous, feel the intensity and perhaps this is where you should begin to think back why and how you want to play tennis. The question is are you still enjoying the game?

Keep it relax. But not too relax totally, by means relax is to be yourself when you are training hitting the balls with accuracy and the right amount of strength. Enjoy every moment at the court. That's why we want to play the sports in the first place isn't it?

As mentioned before in the previous post, the number one standing in the female players' circle is very fast compared to the males at least. Although sometimes it is always the same players playing, things changes for the no. 1 spot. It was actually Kim Clijsters who won the World Number One again from her comeback. But right now, Caroline Wozniacki just won back that No. 1 spot again. Though she lost to the final at the Qartar Open, she is now the World Number 1 still.

It was also at this match I felt that Maria Sharapova is back on something. She has shown some of her best moves and probably the determination to win and more importantly the focus in the game.

It is not that she is not good but sometimes it seems she is just not that focus. She has managed to outlast the Elena the second seeded of the game at this match and shown her focus despite the longer hours of game than usual. It was a good match both had played well.

It was like a roller coaster to me while watching and keeping track of the tennis matches at the Italian Open. Serena Williams returned with her usual strong techniques winning her opponents one by one. Caroline the World Number two lost out in the few rounds. Ivanovic performed pretty well at the matches and her latest attire is one that I think is attractive and at the same time not too striking. It suits her in fact.

More on the attire Jelena had her green outfit which had a picture taken of her in that attire that makes the attire shines out in a classic manner. She also performed well in fact won the crowd favourite and World Number one Serena Williams at the semi-finals.

Serena Williams was upset and said she did not managed to win over herself at the match, while all the main stars are taking the limelight, it was world ranked 26th Martinez who slowly won World Number two Caroline and former World Number one Ivanovic to reach to the final.

At final, she won another former World Number one Jelena who just won the current World Number one with her beautiful drop shots that Jelena said they have really made her lost in the game. It was interesting to note despite being out of the limelight compared to those often in it, it was her skills if she has improved make her claim the trophy that probably not many expected. If they said the ball is round in soccer, the ball is also round in tennis.

Is it shocking or expected for the World Number one to exit early again at key tournaments this time at the Rome Masters? Usually it was posts and reports on how many points Roger Federer won over his opponent but lately, this time at Romes it was Gulbis who won 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Roger Federer.

His sluggish performance has made many wonder, thinking whether he has lost his steam in playing tennis. Most of the times you will never get to see the World Number one exit so early at the games. Those who read my blog usually knows I will write a brief up of a technique and then share how the technique can be done like now. So for one-handed slice tennis backhand technique , there are about 5 steps:

Step 1.
Get ready with the racket in front with non-dominating hand supporting the racket. As usual, bend knees slightly for faster movement.

Step 2.
Track the ball with the racket butt and lean into the outside food as you are going to play the ball.

Step 3.
As the bounces, perform a backswing by fully rotate the upper body and ensure that shoulders are aligned.

Step 4.
Count one on the bounce hit down and across the underside of the ball when you reach five. However the speed of counting depends on the speed of the ball.

Step 5.
As you finish the shot, your shoulders blades should be completely squeezed together with the racket arm pulled across the ball.

When Roger Federers was out of the tournament due to that he needed some rest for his health, fans were disappointed but at least other players who were still in the game made the tournament interesting. He made it all the way to the final but his challenge, the defending champion and World No. 2 Novak Djokovic managed to win him after all. Despite a tantrum from the World No. 2 who kept smashing his racket until it buckled after he double-faulted to put his opponent 5-4 up and a day-long rain delay, he put up a good game still.

It was tiring for both players as they did not budged in to each other and at the final game, Djokovic led 3-0 but was chased up by the second seed to 3-3. The golden score was when Djokovic served out the match after a long forehand from the Russian. The Serb then collapse in triumph to express his joy.

I was watching this exciting football game half way in the English Premier league but managed to check out the livescore of the game to find out the result. It was competitive but she managed to win the set in the end at the games.

Maria Sharapova has also won a title at the Memphis Championship. This is probably her second title since she has comeback. Still a long way from how she has performed in the past but at least she is starting to win the titles. At this tournament she won 6-2, 6-1 victory over Swedish qualifier Sofia Arvidsson. Maria Sharapova played really well at the game and won the title easily.

Elena Dementieva World No. 7 top seeded for the Paris Open has won all matches and claim her new title. Her match with the US Teen sensational Melanie Oudin was fast and furious giving the teen no chance and won her after losing the first set. Elena continued to perform and at the final she met Czech Lucie Safarova.

It was almost the same at the round when she played with Oudin. She was down by one set and later she came back with the score 6-7 6-1 6-4 to win the Paris Indoor Open for the first time.

The 28 year old Russian won the title and a cash prize of US $107,000.

The defensive tennis lob is usually played when you are out of position and needed some time to recover. For such a technique to be performed, one needs pretty much practice, the nimble factor and the accuracy. Here are the some of the steps to perform a defensive lob:

The grip

Use the same grips as you do for forehand and backhand shots.

Preparation and backswing

Prepare as if you were hitting a ground stroke and bring the head of the racket below the height of the ball and at the same time bend well at your knees. Open the racket face slightly and rest your weight on the back foot.

Forward swing and contact

Bring the racket forward in a low-high swing. As you do this you will gradually extend the knees forward and upward. At the same time ensure the racket face is slightly open.

Follow through

Make the path of the racket on the basic lob from low to high. You may make the follow through upwards, to give the ball height over the net. Hit it with some slice to give the ball more height if you are playing the defensive lob.
